鈥淥ffering free transit (on voting day) makes it easier for residents to get to the polls and cast their ballots,鈥 per a release from BC Transit.听
But the release notes that 鈥渄ecisions to offer free transit are made by local government partners in each separate community鈥.听
In the Okanagan, free transit on Monday is being offered in Penticton, including the handyDART service, on regional routes throughout the South Okanagan-Similkameen service area.听
Free rides are also available in Vernon, but only on routes 1-9, as well as handyDart. Fares will still be collected on routes 60, 61, and 90, which serve Enderby, Lumby, and UBC Okanagan, respectively.听
Representatives of local governments who partner with BC Transit to deliver bus service in the Central Okanagan - sa国际传媒, West sa国际传媒, Lake Country, and Peachland - have not yet discussed whether to offer free rides on voting day.听
鈥淭he City of sa国际传媒 has been in discussions with BC Transit about presenting a report to all councils, recommending fare waivers for certain events or designated days,鈥 says Mike Kittmer, the citysa国际传媒 transit manager.听
鈥淗owever, there is no timeline for this currently, nor will it be in time for the upcoming federal election date,鈥 Kittmer said.听
