The president and chief operating officer of Interior Health, Susan Brown, has announced her retirement. She started out in health care in sa国际传媒 as an ER nurse and rose to oversee IH, which serves a population of about 850,000 people and has a budget of $3.5 billion.聽

The top health bureaucrat in the Okanagan is retiring.聽

Susan Brown will leave her post as Interior Healthsa国际传媒 president and chief operating officer at the end of the year. She has been with the organization for 14 years.聽

She started out in health care in sa国际传媒 working as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital. 鈥淪usansa国际传媒 lifetime of service has made a lasting impact to patients and their families,鈥 health minister Josie Osborne said in a release.聽

While Brown has been in charge, IH has opened 11 urgent and primary care centres to relieve pressure on ERs and added cardiac and stroke services at sa国际传媒 General Hospital. She has also worked to 鈥渆mbed cultural safety and anti-racism in the organization鈥, the release states.聽

鈥淒uring a time of profound uncertainty, through the COVID-19 pandemic and several natural disasters in the Interior, Susan has been an extraordinary leader and force for positive change,鈥 said Dr. Robert Halpenny, chair of the IH board of directors.聽

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, according to publicly available records, Brown was paid $403,817 and had expenses of $36,763.
