Ayo Ogini

Warriors goaltender Ayo Ogini battles with Vipers forward Koji Gibson during the first period at Kal Tire Place on Friday night.

It wasn't the start to 2025 that the West sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Warriors were looking for...

The Warriors dropped their inaugural game of the New Year 5-2 to the Vernon Vipers at Kal Tire Place on Friday night.

Despite carrying a 1-1 tie into the first intermission(thanks to Sam LeDrew's 13th of the season), the Warriors ran into a problem that seemed to haunt them for much of the first half of the season; Penalty Trouble. The Vernon Vipers went 3/4 on the powerplay, while the Warriors went 0/3 with the man advantage.

After starting the third period down by a pair, the Warriors were able to pull within one, as Ian Alonso scored his third of the season early in the final stanza, but the Vipers were able to add a pair of quick ones to stomp out any spark of a Warriors comeback. Between the pipes, Ayo Ogini showcased sparks of brilliance, but fell victim to the Vipers powerplay, as well as poor zone exits from the Warriors. He was pulled midway through the third after allowing five goals on twenty shots.

The Warriors return to action on home ice on Saturday night, when they kick off a five game homestand, beginning with the Spruce Grove Saints for Lucky Section Night. Tickets are available at
