Bribing us with our own money

Dear Editor:

A note to Premier David Eby.

Isn鈥檛 that nice of you to keep us rolling in NDP cash! Giving a pittance back after stealing it in over taxation and regulations like a good socialist government does.

We can see right through you trying to buy our votes this fall, Comrade Eby. British Columbians are tired of the deep state running our lives. We want to keep our money in our jeans and have our freedom back to make our own choices.

Does silence mean consent?

Dear Editor:

Where is the outrage? Does silence mean consent?

A big, rich developer ruins the homes of 84 people and has so far, gotten away with it. The City of sa国际传媒 officials have either defended the rich developer or they have been silent.

The City of sa国际传媒 has a 60-year lease with Pathways Abilities Society for the Hadgraft Wilson Place building. 聽 聽You would think that the city would have a vested interest in the building to last 60 years, but I鈥檓 not sure if it even lasted 60 days.

The Hadgraft Wilson Place building had their Ribbon Cutting on June 14, 2023 and they had reports of damage in early to mid September 2023.

There was surely damage behind the walls before that time.

Not only has the City of sa国际传媒 let the rich developer cause the 84 people to lose their homes but now they have a broken building with a 60-year lease.

The dirt that formerly supported the Hadgraft Wilson Place building needs to be replaced so the rich developer can give the people back their homes.

The City of sa国际传媒 needs to stand up for their residents who have lost their homes and require the developer to change their plans.

The taxpayers of sa国际传媒 also deserve better from their officials.

Do not allow this idiocy

Dear Editor:

Re: 鈥淒isaster waiting to happen,鈥 (Sept. 4).

I couldn鈥檛 agree more with letter writer Karen Krout regarding the province allowing developers to include only one stairwell construction in a six-storey building.聽聽

That the provincial government is even thinking along those lines is totally absurd. 聽 Itsa国际传媒 a recipe for disaster! Imagine having only one door to exit an aircraft during an emergency evacuation. How absolutely stupid is that?

Please government, do not allow this idiocy.

The kindness of strangers

Dear Editor:

We would like to send out a very big thank you to several people who, so very quickly, came to our assistance on Tuesday, Aug. 13. My husband (who uses a walker) and I, were walking from the lab on Leon Ave. to our car which was in the labsa国际传媒 parking lot.聽聽

My husband slipped as he was trying to get into the car and fell against the door.聽 We were unable to get him up. It happened that a student nurse was right there and offered to call for help at her school across the street.聽 While she was doing that, I went back to the lab to see if someone there could come to our aid.聽聽

Within seconds, 鈥淢andy鈥 and a co-worker were out the door and quickly came with me to our car.

When we arrived at the vehicle, a health care worker from the school was already there and had my husband up and seated in our car.聽 He was unhurt, thankfully, so all was well.聽聽

However, I noticed 聽a kind woman on the sidewalk who called 911 just in case an ambulance was needed. Then I saw two men from sa国际传媒 On-Call who also came to help. This all happened in less than 10 minutes.聽聽

Unfortunately we didn鈥檛 get any names.聽 My husband and I want to thank all these wonderful and special people who came to assist us so readily.聽 Their kindness was very much and sincerely appreciated.

Conservative candidate speaks

Dear Editor:

I am making this statement in my capacity as a candidate to be your MLA in Penticton Summerland.

I will remain the candidate with the BC Conservatives in the upcoming fall election.

I want to acknowledge that a significant political, personal and professional sacrifice has been made by Kevin Falcon, and the BC United party which has thrown its weight behind the BC Conservative Party for the betterment of sa国际传媒

I am moved by the groundswell of support in light of this, yet my heart goes out to those BC United members affected. I know what it is like to subject yourself to public scrutiny, work hard for many months, put everything on the line for what you believe in, and as such my heart goes out to those affected.

The political sacrifice the BC United party has made will only be worthwhile if we actually unite the right. If we don鈥檛 unite the right, the sacrifice will be for nothing.

Therefore I am reaching my hand out from one fellow conservative to another in humility to the supporters of BC United and asking that we come together for the common goal of defeating the NDP.

The NDP is bad for sa国际传媒 and has been particularly bad for this riding. Our food bank usage is up 40%. Homelessness and housing insecurity is at crisis levels. Over 4,000 people in this riding are waiting for a family doctor. Small businesses are struggling under the weight of excessive taxation and petty crime. It is clear to me that the best way to serve my community is from Victoria rather than as a councillor, limited by the bounds of what a municipality can do, and having already tried to advocate to the NDP for what we need, with little result.

As for my team, we are not resting on our laurels. No one is popping champagne and in fact this is a somber time given the immense sacrifice by Falcon and his party. The NDP, although they are weak on governance are excellent campaigners. They have a lot of money. They have a whole machine. Candidates typically inherit tens of thousands of dollars, whereas our conservative party is completely grassroots and we raise each and every dollar. We still very much need the communitysa国际传媒 support as donors, volunteers, and voters.

Success is never guaranteed, and we will not stop working to win this riding and protect it from the NDP until 8 p.m. on Oct. 19. My door is open to anyone from BC United and I鈥檓 committed to building relationships with all of you for the singular purpose of defeating the NDP.

With commitment and humility,

Amelia Boultbee,聽Penticton
