Hopes city councillor makes right decision

Dear Editor:

Re: 鈥淪hould she stay or should she go?,鈥 (Aug.13).

I commend Coun. Amelia Boultbee for recognizing that her first commitment is to the community of Penticton who elected her to the position of city councillor.

Thank you for considering your first obligation and responsibility.

I hope you make the right choice. You can gain more experience before running in another provincial year.

Fiddling while Rome burns

Dear Editor:

Re: The abrupt closure of sa国际传媒 Tree Fruits.

I watch amazed as the government fiddles while Rome burns.

Even if it does not qualify under the Emergency Measures Act, this definitely is an emergency situation demanding immediate actions. 聽

If ever there was a time for a government to exercise extraordinary actions, this is the time.

The problem with extraordinary action -- such actions often brush up against the principals of democracy but they do exist and can be invoked in many manners, like the vaccine mandates as an example.

I am sure that I am not the only person who wonders if the three main political entities could possibly get off their 鈥淲e are better than the other guy鈥 seat long enough to do what is immediately needed to deal with this yearsa国际传媒 fruit crops. Prunes, pears and apples being the mainstays of many farms. I for one would hold any political entity that, in this case would act for the public good, in the highest respect.

The sa国际传媒 Tree Fruits facilities are the only facilities capable of handling the enormous volume of product.

In order to do this, a government would have to immediately enact legislations that imposes on the operation and management of a private corporation.

This may not be as daunting as thought for a number of reasons.

First off, the sa国际传媒 Tree Fruits board took an action that invokes insolvency without outright knowledge and ascent of the growers who are the shareholders and in essence the owners of sa国际传媒 Tree Fruits.

While this may technically be allowed, it may also provide the latitude to take temporarily restorative actions.

Secondly, I believe that a quick meeting with the shareholder/owners would indicate the needed majority support to give these temporary measures an opportunity for success.聽

As an added bonus, it would allow the new apple line to be commissioned, greatly increasing its value.

Looking forward from here, the government of the day would have to determine if a reputable purchaser can be found or if a Crown Corporation could be created. Either way, there would be major discussions with the shareholder/owners.

To make a solution happen it would take many of the dismissed employees to come back to the operation, both union and salaried staff. This would possibly be the most difficult component as these employees were not treated well.

They were immediately dismissed without warning and most were never paid to a comparable industry standard. Much consideration would have to be given here and conditions for the future defined. Difficult discussions indeed.

It will take more courage for the governments of the day to take action toward a solution than to keep repeating 鈥渢his is a private co-op there is nothing we can do.鈥

It would also take a tremendous leap of faith for the opposition parties to stand for the good of the province and not make 鈥榩olitical hay鈥 of this until a solution is in place.

I guess we are going to see what all our politicians are made of. An interesting place just before an election.

Only my opinion.

A bully doesn鈥檛 care about you

Dear Editor:

The latest federal Conservative agitprop has arrived.

I am struck at how every line glibly spews misinformation, exhibiting an insulting lack of respect for voter intellect. 聽

Itsa国际传媒 designed to appeal to a segment of the population immersed in offensive, libelous internet posts by politicians who have progressed from false Robocalls (2011), to the current 鈥榖ots鈥 circulating absurd lies. 聽

The unthinking not only accept, but obediently perpetuate it, trailing in the wake of the schoolyard bully where insults and dirty tricks are the norm.

Don鈥檛 think a bully cares about you. A bully wants power, unhampered by decency. To a bully, decency is laughable, 鈥渨oke鈥, and 鈥渨hacko鈥.

Shockingly, the gullible don鈥檛 realize the destruction of every previous gain, a vaccine mandate is just one example, doesn鈥檛 only affect today, this year, next year. It has a profound effect for decades. Not vaccinating against communicable disease means a future of damaged children and a decimated work force.

Abdicating responsibility for the well being of others and of future generations is not 鈥渇reedom鈥, not 鈥渃ommon sense鈥. Itsa国际传媒 a crime. The same applies to abandoning social services, CPP, 聽every essential program without which the country will be dragged backwards 150 years.

Most ironic is that the group advocating this, owe their cushy living to a lifetime at the public trough .

Our Creston friend really needs a reality check . Job numbers? Pull your head out of itsa国际传媒 current locale and note the employment and economic conditions globally .聽

Canada is paradise in comparison, regardless of your 鈥渄istrust, dislike, disrespect鈥. Those who feel Canada has nothing to offer need to go elsewhere.

We face a constant barrage of right wing swill, from a walking, talking, parody of Trump, no decency, no empathy, but desperate for power. 鈥淭he freest country in the world鈥 . 鈥淭he worst prime minister ever鈥. 鈥淭he biggest crowd鈥 (as per 鈥榖ot鈥 report) 聽and the 鈥渨orst decline in living standards鈥 .

(Worth noting is decline in living standard, be it long term care, medical care, loss of a living wage, can all be directly attributed to the prevailing ideology of privatization). If you can鈥檛 afford the necessities, you don鈥檛 deserve them, is the premise; "fairness鈥 being a few having everything, the rest, nothing. Worse yet, they have waged war on every independent source of information in Canada.

Itsa国际传媒 carbon copy over-the- top, laughably extreme Republican spiel. Even those with the shortest of memory will remember the role of every Ministry of Dirty Tricks, in the previous government, in which Skippy played a prominent and unpleasant role. Now hesa国际传媒 bent on seeing how much garbage the public is willing to swallow.

Part of the Conservative stated agenda is to infiltrate school curriculum to reflect their distorted right wing narrative. Indoctrinating children, highly effective in creating generations of 鈥渋deologically aware鈥,聽was mandated in Nazi Germany, obedience without feeling, without protest, as dictated by the right wing regime, and was proposed by the previous government in Canada.

This attempt to rewrite history, officially known as RIGHT WING RECONCEPTUALIZATION of CANADA , should inspire fear in every thinking person .

Letsa国际传媒 NOT 鈥渂ring it home鈥. Letsa国际传媒 shun it like the indecent invasion of insanity that it is.聽
