In demand

A unique-in-sa国际传媒 On Demand transit service that was supposed to end this fall after a trial run in a sa国际传媒 neighbourhood has been extended until the latter half of 2025, BC Transit says.

A unique transit service in a sa国际传媒 neighborhood will continue for another year.

The On Demand service in Crawford has been extended until at least the fall of 2025, BC Transit says. When the trial was launched earlier this year, it was to have ended in September.

鈥淏C Transit is currently exploring opportunities to potentially make the service permanent and expand it to other parts of the province,鈥 BC Transit spokesperson Jamie Weiss said via email to The sa国际传媒 Courier.

A report on the success of the On Demand service, including performance times and ridership stats, will be released early in the new year, Weiss said.

With On Demand, people can use a BC Transit app to call a bus for a ride that picks them up at a time of their choosing at a stop near their home. Destinations may be elsewhere in the Crawford neighborhood or a nearby transit centre, to connect them to routes elsewhere in sa国际传媒.

The service, unique in the province, is an attempt by BC Transit to increase ridership in low-density neighbourhoods where fixed-route transit service can be both costly and under-used.
