Kindhearted city residents Ken and Gloria Sargent have donated $1.5 million toward a new surgical oncology research program to BC Cancer - sa国际传媒.听

The aim is to continue the development of less invasive, more precise techniques to treat patients with cancer.听

鈥淭hanks to the Sargentsa国际传媒 generosity, our new research program will allow us to ensure patients are receiving the best treatment - or combination of treatments - at the right time,鈥 Dr. Chris Baliski of BC Cancer said in a release.听

The surgical oncology research program will also launch surgical oncology clinical trials for highly prevalent cancers like breast, melanoma, and thyroid cancer. Itsa国际传媒 also expected to attract more top medical talent and leading-edge researchers to sa国际传媒.听

The BC Cancer Foundation is raising a total of $3.3 million for BC Cancer - sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 surgical oncology program.听

Surgical oncologists are doctors specialized trained to diagnose, stage, and remove cancerous tumours. Traditionally, cancer surgery has often meant radical organ removal, which, while effective in eradicating cancer, can lead to long and challenging recoveries and life-altering outcomes.听

Todaysa国际传媒 researchers are pioneering less invasive, more precise techniques and establishing multidisciplinary approaches to better integrate surgery chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy to improve patient outcomes.听
