The new forecast is for a city of 212,406 people in that year, compared to a previous estimated population of 232,586.
Province-wide, the population growth over the next two decades is forecast to be less than one per cent annually, compared to a year-over-year rate of 4.0 per cent between 2022 and 2023.

By comparison, the population increase over the same period is forecast to be 31.1 per cent in Metro Vancouver (to 3.9 million), 26.4 per cent in the Fraser Valley (to 446,000), and 20 per cent in greater Nanaimo (to 220,000).听
sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 population growth will be fuelled largely by people moving to the region from other parts of sa国际传媒 and other provinces.听
In 2023, for the first time in more than a decade, sa国际传媒 lost more people than it gained in interprovincial migration, with a net loss of 8,624 people to other Canadian jurisdictions.听
Based on sa国际传媒 previously forecast as having a population of 232,586 in 2041, the city estimated it would need to oversee the construction of 45,000 additional housing units by that year.听
More than three-quarters of those new homes were envisioned as being built downtown and in the various urban centres, largely through multi-family developments such as townhomes, condominiums, and highrises.听
