sa国际传媒 HOV lanes poor option

Dear Editor:

Re: 鈥淭heresa国际传媒 no enforcement,鈥 in reference to sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 HOV lanes (Daily Courier letters, May 3).

Having driven in Montreal, Kingston, Calgary and Vancouver where the HOV lanes are on the left and are considered 鈥渆xpress鈥 lanes, I find this right lane version a poorly-considered option to effective traffic flow.

In other cities, the HOV is used as an incentive to carpool whereby travellers reach their destinations faster than in regular traffic. Using the exit/enter lane completely voids that incentive.

Busses in other cities are in the slow lane on the right, where slow traffic is, by law, supposed to be. They manage at their bus stops quite nicely, with cars behind them expecting to move at a slower rate.

In sa国际传媒, if one is not familiar with the city and where street signs like Kirshner, are small, itsa国际传媒 more dangerous to abruptly change lanes to make the exit than it is to prepare for a smooth exit a few blocks away.

What a waste of policing time and money it would be to enforce this ill-conceived idea of a right lane HOV. A better solution is to move it to the left.
