The greatest mystery ever
Dear Editor:
Snoop Dog, I thought you were the coolest, not anymore. Wayne Gretzky I thought you were the Great One, not anymore. Tiger Woods, I thought you were the goat, not anymore.
I shopped at Home Depot, Costco, Target, but not anymore.
What possesses a person or company to throw their lifelong reputation away for the likes of a, here we go, a liar, a felon, an adjudicated sex offender, a thief, a deadbeat, a narcissist, a racist, a seditionist, a fascist, and overall horrible person, with not a moral bone in his body?
What possesses a person to support such a person over his or hers native country, let alone one who gave you a home when you left yours to come to Canada? For me and many others it will be the greatest mystery.

PROBUS club for Penticton
Dear Editor:
The Kamloop Rotary Club is interested in sponsoring a PROBUS club in Penticton.
PROBUS, meaning 鈥淰irtue鈥, is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non- sectarian fellowship organization for seniors with over 4,000 clubs worldwide, including some 250 Canadian clubs made up of over 35,000 members.
The clubs are all about encouraging healthy minds and bodies and socializing with other retirees in the community. There are four clubs in Kamloops, two in Salmon Arm and one in Sorrento, Blind Bay, Vernon, sa国际传媒 and West sa国际传媒.
There usually is one meeting per month with the focus on fostering similar interests, social events and providing regular meetings with interesting speakers. There is no fundraising. The motto is Fun, Friendship, Fellowship and Learning for all men and women in their retirement and semi-retirement years.
Each club has many organized activities, including guest speakers, special interest groups, tours and outings.
For interest in joining or for more information can be found at the website: or email PentProbus@outlook.com or phone Ken Almond at 250-328-5223.

Empires don鈥檛 last forever
Dear Editor:
I鈥檓 not sure what really happened when Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenkyy visited the Oval Office on Feb. 28, but I can safely hazard a guess based on TV news clips and a partial transcript posted by Global.
The visit began well, with President Donald Trump greeting Volodymyr Zelenskyy outdoors on arrival.
American media cameras recorded the event. Trumpsa国际传媒 signature fist-pump gesture appeared to be for the benefit of the cameras, as he did not raise his arm.
Zelenskyy was there to sign the rare-earth minerals deal and obtain security guarantees needed because Russia cannot be trusted to honour the peace. Zelenskyy did not come to play cards.
Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance expected Zelenskyy to sign the mineral agreement without the guarantee. Zelensky tried to explain why he needed guarantees against Russian aggression, but was interrupted and accused of being ungrateful, and disrespectable by both Vance and Trump.
Zelensky replied 鈥...we are thankful, I said thank you鈥.
Asked again by Vance to just say thank you, Zelenskyy responded 鈥淚 said a lot of times, thank you to the American people鈥.
Vance was first to speak at the meeting, but when Zelenskyy stood his ground, continuing to explain his countrysa国际传媒 position, Vance became more irritated, telling Zelenskyy, 鈥淢r. President, with respect, I think itsa国际传媒 disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media.鈥
Trump, perhaps recalling his 10 years as the host of The Apprentice, interjected, 鈥淭his is going to be good television...I will say that.鈥
Trump then dismissed the media, and abruptly ended the meeting, perhaps finally realizing Zelenskyy would not be bullied into an agreement without U.S. security guarantees.
I think Russiasa国际传媒 President Vladimir Putin would agree the meeting was good television. He must know that empires don鈥檛 last forever.

City bylaws seem contradictory
Dear Editor
Let me preface this by admitting I do not have a degree in geology or law and I don鈥檛 have a clue as to what the specific gravity is of the sand that the BC-NDP and Penticton City Council, along with Staff, is using to write laws and permits, but it has become painfully obvious to me that it is the equivalent of sewage effluent and liquid garbage.
When my 81-year old mother and my 11- year old niece require an armed phalanx of stormtroopers to get Chicken McNuggets and milk shakes, itsa国际传媒 time for me to do some digging.
What I鈥檝e found to date:
Penticton City Council approved Temporary Use Permit PL2024-9888 back in Sept. 2024 and it stinks.
It has nothing to do with this so-called Temporary Winter Shelter at 441 Dawson Ave. which, by the way, legally does not exist.
People should be knocking on Greyback Constructionsa国际传媒 door at 402 Warren Ave. E which is zoned M1 General Industrial (does not allow for any type of housing) if they require short-term accommodation because that is the address that the permit was issued and granted for.
Legal: Lot 6 District Lots 251 and 3429S Similkameen Division Yale District Plan 11264
Except Plan KAP70095; Civic: 402 Warren Avenue East; PID: 007-860-811
For city council, mayor and all the directors with the various agencies involved with this three-ring circus and various others please publish your home addresses so that the taxpaying citizen of Penticton can have cartons of cigarettes hand delivered to your home once you all are finally done screwing the taxpayers and citizens of Penticton over.

Don鈥檛 bring Trump to Alberta
Dear Editor:
The next G-7 summit is slated to be held in Kananaskis, Alta. (a beautiful location), on June 15-17 and should not be blemished by the attendance of Donald Trump.
Remember he is a convicted felon and if you are up to date with his latest horrific stunt, you would also not want him there.
His haywire antics would only turn the conference into a circus.

Companies we should support
Dear Editor:
While the decision of tens of thousands of Canadians to buy Canadian and avoid purchasing U.S. products is a good way to express our contempt for the actions of the unhinged thug currently occupying the White House, we can and must do more.
For example, why on earth would any Canadian shop at Home Depot, Lowesa国际传媒, or Rona, three U.S. owned companies, when the same goods and services are available at Home Hardware, a Canadian company? Similarly, letsa国际传媒 boycott Costco, Walmart, and Amazon. Canadian companies such as Real Canadian Superstore, Canadian Tire, and Save On offer the same or similar products.
Or better yet, whenever possible letsa国际传媒 buy from our local retailers.
Even when the price of a product is slightly more at a Canadian owned retailer, for those who can afford to, supporting Canadian businesses is money well spent.
On the fast food and coffee fronts remember that A&W, White Spot, and Second Cup Coffee are Canadian companies; the rest are not, so stay away.
And then there are the big ticket items like automobiles. As Europe, Japan and South Korea all make great cars, letsa国际传媒 pass on U.S. vehicles, particularly Elon Musksa国际传媒 Teslas.
There is no shortage of opportunities for patriotic Canadians to vote with their wallets.

A thug is a thug is a thug
Dear Editor:
Thugs in the 鈥渙val office鈥 humiliating and threatening President Volodymyr Zelensky, boastfully perpetuating indignities upon everyone they perceive to be vulnerable, prove, as the scriptures tell us: 鈥淏y your works and your associates you will be known.鈥
Shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves apparently applies to morals as well as fortunes. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are infinitely true to the standards of their antecedents.
Make no mistake.
The same applies to name-calling, misinformation-spreading wannabe thugs, lusting for power, in this country. No amount of money and make-overs funded by the tax payer will buy you decency or a pedigree.
A thug is a thug is a thug.

Seeing action and it is ridiculed
Dear Editor:
Over the past decade, all levels of government have misused taxpayer money, overspent, ignored important drug, woke and immigration issues, and been dilatory.
Something changed that, and it is being ridiculed. What is wrong with action?
