In 1925, the Okanagan Historical and Natural History Society was formed. That group led to the formation of the sa国际传媒 Museums Society which operates the main museum on Queensway and several smaller ones also downtown.聽
Construction of a new entranceway, the first major outdoor modification to the squat concrete building that dates back to the late 鈥60s, is nearing completion. 鈥淛ust a few more finishing touches and we鈥檒l be welcoming you through a beautiful new entrance,鈥 the society states in its December newsletter.聽
Current exhibits at the museum include 鈥極ld School鈥, depicting early classroom life in the sa国际传媒 area, and 鈥業n the Line of Duty,鈥 an exhibit at the Military Museum that includes a display on Major-Gen. Rodney Keller, a little-known sa国际传媒 man who commanded Canadian troops during the D-Day invasion but who was later accused of cowardice.聽
In addition to the permanent and travelling exhibits, the museum has thousands of artefacts that are rarely, if ever put on public display. 鈥淲e have limited square footage so some items in our collection that aren鈥檛 so directly connected to our local people, places, and culture, go into storage,鈥 former museum curator Linda Digby said in a 2017 interview.聽
The collection includes photographs, everyday household items from the old days, more than 2,500 pieces of old clothing, and the Ogopogo-shaped head of an old City of sa国际传媒 float.

A figurine of the character from the popular 鈥90s TV show Family Matters is among the items tucked into the museumsa国际传媒 toy collection. The figure is the featured artefact in this monthsa国际传媒 museum newsletter.聽
鈥淛ust looking at this doll, many of us can practically hear the catchphrase 鈥楧id I do that?鈥欌欌 the newsletter states. 鈥淲e chose this doll to pay homage to a toy that many of us would have been happy to receive as a gift growing up in the 鈥90s.鈥
In addition to regular visitors, the museum last year welcomed almost 7,000 students on school tours, and drew 2,200 people to a variety of special public programs.聽
