Lawson redo redevelopment infill housing

Recent and future views of a property on Lawson Avenue near sa国际传媒's downtown typify the changing urban landscape in the city's core.聽

The evolving look of sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 central area is typified by a redevelopment proposed for 921 Lawson Ave., one block east of Richter Street.聽

On the left above is a recent picture of the 0.2 acre site, as shown on the BC Assessment website. The 0.2 acre property, now vacant, has an assessed value of $1.2 million.聽

On the right is a three-storey sixplex proposed聽for the property. "These three-storey buildings have a distinctly聽modern personality," the developer states in an application聽to the city for a permit.聽

"Street-facing entrances enhance the pedestrian experience, creating a lively and engaging streetscape, while the varied rooflines introduce architectural interest and break up the building's massing," the application聽states.聽

The proposed building is an example of so-called infill housing the city is encouraging to increase the number of people living downtown and rejuvenate the area.

City policies and new provincial legislation allow up to six new homes to be built on thousands of standard-sized municipal lots in sa国际传媒 without neighborhood residents being able to comment on the development proposals at a public hearing.聽
