The teenager charged with murder in the tragic death of a young man on the grounds at Penticton Secondary School three years ago will make his next court appearance in early 2025, while one of the three youths charged in the same crime has been denied a request to stay overnight at a sweet 16 birthday party this weekend in Osoyoos.
Isaac Hayse Jack, 18, made a brief appearance Thursday at the Penticton courthouse as a judicial case manager made an order for him to return to court on Jan. 13, 2025.
Itsa国际传媒 expected he will enter a plea to the charge hesa国际传媒 facing at his next court appearance.
Jack has been charged with murder in the death of Taig Savage, 22, whose body was found on the grounds at Penticton High on September 5, 2021.
Three other teenagers, none who can be named or identified under Canadian law as they are all under age 18, are also facing serious charges in relation to Savagesa国际传媒 death.
The lawyer for one of the three youths, Nelson Selemaj, made an application to the court Friday before Justice Lynett Jung asking that he be allowed to stay overnight at a resort with his parents after attending a birthday party in Osoyoos.
The youth currently has a daily curfew between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Selemaj told the court his client would be under the care and watchful eye of his parents and other family members at all times.
Earlier this summer, a court order allowed his client to attend an important cultural event while under strict bail conditions and there were no issues.
Since being charged in relation to Savagesa国际传媒 death and released on strict bail conditions, his client has returned to his job and has been leading a 鈥減ro social鈥 life, he said.
Crown attorney Kurt Froelich said he was opposing the request for the youth to be able to stay overnight after the birthday party.
Because the youthsa国际传媒 nightly curfew doesn鈥檛 begin until 9 p.m., there is still plenty of time for him to attend the birthday party and return home to Penticton before the curfew begins, he said.
The youthsa国际传媒 bail supervisor is also against the application to have him stay overnight with his parents at the resort, he said.
鈥淭here was no compelling reason given to you鈥 to alter the bail conditions and allow this youth to stay overnight, especially considering hesa国际传媒 not asking him to be prevented from attending the birthday party, said Froelich to Justice Jung.
鈥淚鈥檓 asking you to dismiss the application,鈥 he said.
Jung said in considering all the evidence and the fact the youth can still attend the birthday party, she agreed with the Crown and would not approve the application to allow him to stay overnight in Osoyoos.
鈥淯nder all the circumstances ... the application is dismissed,鈥 she said.
This youth was ordered to return to court for his next appearance on Jan. 13, the same date Jack is scheduled to appear.
Savage was rushed to hospital after his unresponsive body was found at the local high school, but he was pronounced dead soon after his arrival.
鈥淭he investigation has resulted in four suspects in this matter being arrested,鈥 said BC RCMP Cpl. James Grandy, in a recent news release.
鈥淧olice are not releasing the identities of the suspects, three of whom were youths at the time of the murder. Each of the accused either remain in custody, or are scheduled to appear in court at a future date.鈥
Police said previously that Savage left his home near the school wearing a hooded sweatshirt and pajamas not long before he was killed.
Savage had been working in construction and came from a family of 10.
鈥淭aig loved people, loved his family. He was a bit of a loner, but would talk with a homeless person for up to four hours. He was nice to the kids who really didn鈥檛 fit in,鈥 his mother, Tracey, told the Herald at the time.
鈥淗e was not a judgmental person. Taig would give his shirt off his back for anybody.鈥
