Hometown boy Max Graham will wear the 鈥楥鈥 for the first time when the sa国际传媒 Rockets welcome Portland Winterhawks to Prospera Place tonight for a Western Hockey League contest.
The Rockets 听announced its leadership group on Wednesday as Max Graham was named the 29th captain in franchise history while Caden Price, Tij Iginla and Andrew Cristall will serve as assistants.听
鈥淚tsa国际传媒 definitely a big honour. I鈥檝e played here for four seasons now and I鈥檓 from sa国际传媒 too,鈥 Graham said. 鈥淭o be able to be honoured as a captain for your hometown team and a team that you鈥檝e been with for so long is definitely a great feeling.鈥
鈥淚 think we鈥檝e got a great group in this room and I鈥檓 really excited to be named their captain. But we鈥檝e got so many different leaders in that room with and without letters, so
I think they鈥檙e going to make my job pretty easy this year and I鈥檓 definitely looking forward to it.鈥
Having grown up in the area and following the Rockets as a kid, Graham said he never could鈥檝e imagined he one day would be captaining the team he grew up watching.
听鈥淣o, never. Truthfully, I鈥檇 never even imagined that I could even play for this team one day, let alone be named captain,鈥 Graham said. 鈥淚tsa国际传媒 definitely unreal. I get lots of my family members coming out to every game and this is my last season here.听I know we鈥檙e off to a pretty slow start, but I think we鈥檙e going to have that turned around really quick here. Definitely not something that I ever thought would happen, but now that it has, itsa国际传媒 awesome.鈥
Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton describes Graham as 鈥渁 fearless leader who leads by example.鈥
It was a busy week for the Rockets as they got news last yearsa国际传媒 leading scorer. Cristall was returned to the team on Monday from the Washington Capitals and is expected in the line up tonight.
The Rockets have now received all eligible players from National Hockey League training camps.
The Rockets are coming off their first victory of the new season when they defeated the Tri-City Americans 2-1 on Saturday in Kennewick, Wash.听
Goaltender Jake Pilon made 31 saves on 32 shots while the red-hot Michael Cicek potted his fourth goal on the season while Caden Price scored the game winner in thes econd period.听
