BROOKS, Alta. — Don’t tell West sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Warriors they finished 31 points behind Brooks Bandits during the regular season and they were winless in four tilts.
The Warriors scored four unanswered goals in the first two periods to beat the Bandits 4-2 in the opening game of the BCHL junior hockey playoff series, Friday in Alberta.
Swedish-born Elias Callgren led the scoring with two goals and an assist. Tyler Grahme and Joey Macrina added single markers. The Warriors led 1-0 at the end of the first, 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Cooper Pierson and Dante Siciliano replied for the Bandits, both in the third period with Sicilianosa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ goal coming short-handed.
Edouard Gauthier had the win in net with 21 saves. Zach Zahara made 18 stops for Brooks.
Game 2 is Saturday, April 5 in Brooks before the series switches to West sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ for Games 3 and 4, beginning Tuesday.
