A sa国际传媒-based charity will raise funds this weekend to combat human trafficking.

The East Meets West foundation, established in 2008, holds its main fundraiser around the time of Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights.听

This yearsa国际传媒 dinner event is being held Oct. 5, starting at 6 p.m., a the Parkinson recreation centre.听

鈥淲e have gone from a small charity to serving much-needed programs in Uganda, Kenya, Nepal, Peru, and the Okanagan,鈥 says Mohini Singh, the groupsa国际传媒 founder and a city councillor.听

This year, proceeds will go toward 鈥楴ot In My City鈥, an initiative promoted by country musician Paul Brandt that aims to reduce the prevalence of human trafficking, particularly involving young people.听

鈥淚t is believed human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in Canada and is the second-largest source of illegal income worldwide,鈥 Singh states. sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 position between Calgary and Vancouver makes it a significant way station on the human trafficking circuit, she says.听
