Canada's Courtney Hoffos wins silver medal at ski cross world championship

SAINT MORITZ - Canada's Courtney Hoffos claimed silver in women's ski cross at the freestyle skiing world championships on Friday.

World Cup champion Fanny Smith of Switzerland won gold, while Germany's Daniela Maier took bronze.

India Sherret of Cranbrook, sa国际传媒, finished eighth.

Hoffos, from Windermere, sa国际传媒, had three podium finishes on this season's World Cup tour, including a silver at the Canadian stop at Craigleith Ski Club earlier this month.

It is the 27-year-old's first medal at the world championships.

"It feels amazing and I鈥檓 very proud to have this medal around my neck," Hoffos said. "Theresa国际传媒 a lot of tactics and passing on this course and today it worked well for me. We鈥檙e all a little tired at this time of year so to get a result like this in such a big event is pretty special.鈥

"I鈥檓 feeling really good right now. I want to keep it going tomorrow in the team event and then into the last World Cup weekend."

Switzerlandsa国际传媒 Ryan Regez won the mensa国际传媒 event, followed by Germanysa国际传媒 Tobia Mueller and Japansa国际传媒 Ryo Sugai. Calgarysa国际传媒 Jared Schmidt placed ninth.
